One of the greatest things to come out of 2016 was NBC’s hit TV series “This is Us.” I was skeptical at first, I wasn’t feeling Mandy Moore. But somehow my fingertips glazed over my remote control and urged me to check out the first episode. And like so many others, I was hooked.

Yeah, you might find yourself in a puddle of tears, grasping for the last tissue — but there is that underlying element that turns it all around with a smile.

When I first openly admitted I was obsessed with this show, I was surprised so many others were too! Because it’s not a guilty pleasure, it’s deeper than that. (And trust me, I will certainly address my love for guilty pleasures). If you have ever struggled in your relationship with your significant other, your parents, your siblings, your boss, your coworker, then you can certainly find a way to let this show in.

Cast Breakdown

Mandy Moore (Rebecca): I never thought the pop princess would transform into a wonderful actress (guilty). Come on, you know secretly loved Candy.  Mandy crushes in her role on This is Us. Scenes are taken from different times over thirty or so years, so Mandy undergoes a lot of character transformations, and she does it so beautifully.  I really feel her compassion for the character and I get lost.

Milo Ventimiglia (Jack):  I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love this character.  He’s not perfect, but with a heart that’s so big, it makes you believe that people like this really exists.  The roles that Milo has held in his movie repertoire I guess weren’t very memorable because I thought it was a newcomer. Regardless, get used to hearing his name over and over because you will fall in love with him.

Sterling K Brown (Russel): Sterling and I never crossed paths on screen, and what a fucking shame. I love this character and can’t think of anyone else who could play it more perfectly. Despite his challenges, he is articulate, poised and has grown into the man every woman dreams of being with.

Chrissy Metz (Kate): Confident and sassy actress plays the heartful Kate. Kates struggle is weight, and we’ve all been there. She has this boyfriend that is so wonderful and sometimes I think she sabotages the relationship because she doesn’t think she deserves him. It’s not uncommon, I feel like I’ve certainly done that in the past and she’s probably the character I identify with the most.

Justin Heartly (Kevin):  Oh I heart(ly) Kevin! Kevin has so many layers and I have to believe he wasn’t put on the show just for eye candy. We sometimes forget in life it doesn’t matter how good looking you are or how much money you have or how famous you are — we all have our own struggles.

And so I found myself sitting here waiting for another episode – I’m missing This Is Us like Candy!!

Get after it and check it out – and let me know if you love it! xoMS
